About Jacy
Jayceryll (Jacy) de Chavez was a founder of the Omicron Tau chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi at Rutgers University in April 1998. He quickly became one of the chapter's leaders and took on the role of Chapter Secretary. After graduating with a double major in Economics and Finance in May 1999, Jacy began work at Dow Jones in Princeton, NJ, but always had his eyes set on New York City. In early 2001, he finally achieved his childhood dream of working in the World Trade Center by taking a Portfolio Analyst position at Fiduciary Trust International on the 96th floor of Tower 2. He was so proud and enjoyed his work.
Jacy was the guy who all of the leaders in Alpha Kappa Psi looked up to. He was so articulate, that when he spoke, listeners were somehow compelled to give more meaning to words like "brotherhood," "tradition," and "friendship" than they normally would. He spoke with an intense passion that remained honest, genuine, and clear to all, despite the complexity of the concepts he expressed. Jacy didn't just come up with good ideas and contributions to the fraternity. He used his gifts to teach us and make us think about the most important fraternal themes. His life philosophy was taken from a Henry James quote that he too often recited. It is tragic that the world lost such a great friend, mentor, brother, and son on that horrifying day in September.
